Dr. Hans Loeb, an up-and-coming biochemist at the
Malcolm-Dean Medical Center in the small town of
Mercer, has always been strong about his feelings
towards science and family, inheriting his love for
science from his father, Gunther, himself a
respected biochemist in his own right. At Hartington
Hospital, at the beginning of his career, he met
Alicia Foster, a young woman who had just
graduated from nursing school. After the death of
Gunther, who had been paralyzed for a couple of
years, Dr. Loeb’s determination to find a cure for
paralysis brought him to the Malcolm-Dean Medical
Center, as well as an unfortunate end to his
relationship with Alicia. But little did Hans know
that a secret from his parents’ past would put his
views on family in an unexpected new light.
